Eric Rushton: Innkeeper - On The Mic

Eric Rushton: Innkeeper ★★★★

This Review is from August 2025

Eric Rushton is an award winning comedian, writer and actor. He was the first recipient the Channel Four Sean Lock award in 2023.

As a kid, Eric was cast in his primary school nativity play, despite, he says, absolutely smashing it, he immediately retired from being a child actor. But now as a young adult, he’s found the correct antidepressants to get back in to show business.

Eric presents as a comedian, but I think he might be a wizard. The trick is in a script that is both abstract and relatable, a delivery which is somehow self deprecating and assured.

I’m told that I’m really bad at inserting pull quotes in to my reviews. You know the things that they slap on posters around Edinburgh, underneath the stars. Anyway, I’m gonna have a go. “Eric Rushton Innkeeper is a little piece of magic”. Or how about, “A well crafted piece, beautifully performed, that can be enjoyed by anyone”.

A version of this review appears on Episode 6 of the On the Mic: Five a Day podcast.
