Transactional Analysis seeks to explain human behaviour and communication through three ego states, Parent, Adult and Child. I have no idea if the actor/comedian is aware of it, but he appears to have brought the theory to life on stage.

Leo Hincks has faced all kinds of challenges, professional and personal, but concludes that his greatest enemy is himself. We visit Leo’s rather unique childhood trauma; we experience his dreams. We join him through a series of meditations where, for example, he imagines his own death.

The fast-paced narrative zips around the past, present and future and can be a little confusing to follow. But the laughs are loud and strong from beginning to end. Despite his self-obsession, Leo is extremely likeable and we are on his side.

Emotional Cowboy is an engaging, original and probably true personal story that needs a happy ending. I hope he gets one, he deserves it.
