This is the funniest live comedy show I have seen in years.
With the beautiful sound of steam trains in the background, as if at a railway station, we are treated to some preshow joke announcements. By the end of the first, the room is won over.
And we are underway. Featuring Mick Moriarty providing some musical accompaniment on the guitar throughout the show and a really rather lovely dog.
Simon Munnery performs his own brand of absurdist comedy at the Fringe every year. On an off day he is funnier than most. This is not an off day. This is an experienced comic at the top of his game.
He shares that he’s been attending AA meetings. Simon is now seven months sober. “In my sobriety I’ve discovered that I really like making people laugh.”
It’s working. He has a glint in his eye and is clearly enjoying himself. He’s filling rooms every lunchtime at The Stand for a reason.
