Some shows are a bit of a gamble at the Fringe. Remember, Remember is absolutely not one of them. This was one of those shows where I spent most of the hour laughing and left thinking, ‘I’d quite happily watch that again right now’ .

With catchy songs, impressive lyricism and genuinely clever storytelling, this is a seriously slick production that somehow never feels overly polished. The cast are clearly incredibly well rehearsed and the whole thing runs like a very well-oiled machine, but thankfully it never becomes stale or predictable.

The gags are wide-ranging and pretty much non-stop, bouncing between clever wordplay, ridiculous moments and some wonderfully British references. And honestly, who doesn’t want a Coleen Rooney reference in a musical about the Gunpowder Plot? It’s so specifically British and so completely unexpected that you can’t help but love it.

The writing deserves a lot of credit here. There’s a huge amount to pack into the story, but the lyricism keeps things moving while still managing to tell the story clearly. The songs are catchy enough that you’ll probably find yourself humming one later, which is always a dangerous sign for a musical.

What I particularly loved is that this really feels like a collective. There isn’t one obvious standout carrying the show. Instead, every cast member gets their moment to shine, with the writing clearly playing to their individual strengths. They’re all brilliant at what they do, and the result is an ensemble that feels completely in sync.

There’s something really satisfying about watching a cast that knows exactly what it’s doing. The timing is sharp, the energy is high and the whole thing feels effortless – even though you can tell there’s an awful lot of work behind that effortlessness.

I laughed my socks off. It’s silly, clever, ridiculously British and packed with enough charm to make you completely forget that you’re watching a musical about a failed attempt to blow up Parliament.

Honestly, this was the easiest five stars I’ve given in a while.
