Okay, so Endometriosis: The Musical is exactly what it says on the tin. And somehow, it really works.

It’s creative, funny and surprisingly touching, with an insanely talented cast throwing themselves into every ridiculous moment. There are definitely times when it feels a little too on the nose, but honestly, they know it. Rather than trying to hide from it, the cast lean into the silliness with such commitment and impeccable comic timing that you can’t help but go along for the ride.

And what a cast. There’s some serious talent on that stage, with Angelo Harrington II a particular standout.Sarah Henrichsen leads the cast with real grace and truthfulness, which is particularly important when the show moves away from the big laughs and into its more sincere moments. Those quieter sections could easily feel overly sentimental, but Henrichsen gives them enough honesty to really land. You can tell that this show was written by people with lived experiences of the disease, and with experience of being dismissed by a healthcare system built by the patriarchy.

The best thing about the show is that it never seems too worried about being a “musical about an Important Topic”. It’s happy to be silly, camp and occasionally completely ridiculous and that’s exactly why the more heartfelt moments work.

As someone who is a sucker for a musical that doesn’t take itself too seriously, this is definitely one to stick on your Fringe list.
