This Fringe, I first saw Dee Allum perform at Reuben Kaye’s brilliant late night queer show, The Kaye Hole. She killed it, in a set that included the best JK Rowling joke I’ve ever heard. Reuben was falling about in hysterical laugher as the thousand-seater capacity audience broke out into a sustained round of applause. It was one of those cathartic Fringe moments that stay with you.

Dee is a bloody good comedian. A candid and engaging joke teller, who understands that you can address whatever issue you like as long as you’re being funny.

Raumdeuter is a show about trying to become the person you want to be. It’s a solid and very funny set.

However, tonight, a bit about being an active football fan that did fall flat – this is not a football audience apparently. The word Raumdeuter of the show’s title means, ‘space interpreter’. We learn that German footballer Thomas Müller plays in this way, “floating between the striker and the winger, getting into half-spaces and causing mischief… In other words, the most transgender thing to ever happen in sports.”

Dee explains that she is living every aspect of her life as “in between”. Will she able to become the person that she wants to be?

A joke heavy, beautifully constructed story telling show. And yes, the JK Rowling joke does feature. It gets funnier the more you hear it.
