Aarian Mehrabani: How’s Your Head? ★★★★

This Review is from August 2026

Aarian Mehrabani is clearly a writer.

Not just because he’s written a show, but because there’s a real care in the way How’s Your Head? has been put together. There are lots of little threads running throughout, and when they all start to come together for the final reveal, it’s genuinely very satisfying. You realise that all those little details you’ve been given actually had a purpose.

The show covers a LOT. Mental health, relationships, family, identity, grief, growing up… there’s plenty packed in here. Occasionally, that does make it feel a little busy, like there’s perhaps one too many thoughts fighting for space.

But at the same time, I think that’s also what makes it feel so authentically Aarian.

There’s something very personal about the whole thing. It doesn’t feel like he’s trying to neatly package everything up into one easy story. It feels more like a brain dumping out all of the things it has been carrying around, and actually, that works.

There’s definitely room for growth, particularly in a few moments where clarity of speech made it harder to follow exactly what was being said. But despite that, I found myself welling up at points.

And really, isn’t that what art is all about?

If something can make you feel something, it’s doing something right.

There’s a real sense that How’s Your Head? is the work of a writer who has plenty more to say. It might still be finding its feet in places, but when those different strings finally come together, there’s something really lovely about it.

A thoughtful, personal and occasionally messy piece that left me feeling rather more than I expected.
