Alfie Brown: Sensitive Man - On The Mic

Alfie Brown: Sensitive Man ★★★★

This Review is from August 2022

Comedians lie all the time. According to Alfie Brown, his partner, actor and comedian Jessie Cave, wanted to try for a third child. He was initially reluctant, but eventually, he agreed on the basis that the comedian could sleep around while on tour in Australia. Jessie did become pregnant, and the following week, the global bastard broke out. The tour was cancelled. I don’t believe a word of it, but the story was worth the punchline, which I won’t give away here.

Brown is an experienced, professional comedian, totally at home on the Monkey Barrel stage chatting to the audience. Most comedians present as exaggerated versions of themselves when performing. Brown comes across as a real person who happens to be very, very funny.

He does take on tricky subjects. Usually, the joke is on Brown himself. Only once does he place himself as the hero of the piece, a noble position that he immediately undermines.

My only issue was that, because the gig started late and ended on time, the show was cut short. He apologised and suggested we watch the full version on the internet. If he hadn’t been so good until that point…
