US comedian Gianmarco Soresi has over one million subscribers on YouTube, nearly one million followers on TikTok and over half a million on Instagram. He’s huge in America, but can he cut it live in front of an international audience? Mostly, yes.
Gianmarco talks at length about his Jewish girlfriend, dating disasters, the usual fare. Solid, but a little middle of the road for my tastes. I don’t really need to hear another, ‘we had a bad time at a restaurant’ routine. A story of a potential threesome with another man, starts well but trails off before it gets to the good bit.
The more political stuff is where all the sweat spots are. He has a great take on Elon Musk and AI. His reflections on being a left-wing Italian Jew during current events in Israel are enlightening. He skewers figures like Trump and Mark Zuckerberg brilliantly. These are some of the sharpest satirical jokes I’ve heard at the Fringe this year.
An enjoyable hour. But I wanted to hear more of his acute insights into the state of the world and a little less about his girlfriend’s aversion to coriander.
