“Have you heard the news?” asks the softly spoken Jake Baker, “masculinity is in crisis!”

Jake admits that he has all the authority of a substitute teacher who has been asked to cover a PE lesson, but he’s going to have a go at tackling the subject anyway.

This is a warm, even cosy hour of stand up about the virtues of being a beta male. For the most part, I found myself nodding in agreement more than laughing my head off. There was an original bit about the myth of the wolf pack, which I particularly enjoyed, and a nice take on hyper-masculine influencers. It’s a well written show.

Jake’s style of low-key whimsy has an audience. Think midweek at 6:30pm on Radio 4 and you’re there.
