Standup comedian, Steffan Alun, delivers a warm, friendly, very funny set.
The comedian discusses identity. Steffan is Welsh and bisexual and feels a responsibility to others who share these identities. Last year an audience member approached Steffan after a gig. “After watching your show, I realised I’m not bisexual… I remembered how I much I hate S Club 7.”
As the comedian points out, that’s not how sexuality works.
Steffan also explores the concept of imposter syndrome. For example, friends who say they aren’t ‘proper Welsh’ because they don’t speak the Welsh language.
These may be familiar themes for Fringe shows. I’ve personally seen two other shows this year that discus imposter syndrome, and shows discussing sexuality are everywhere.
What raises this set above most is simply that Steffan Alun is a bloody good comedian. High gag rate, great stories, lovely crowd work. A near faultless performance. I’m looking forward to seeing him on the bigger stage.
