Grubby Little Mitts: Late Night 70s Game Show (WIP) - On The Mic

Grubby Little Mitts: Late Night 70s Game Show (WIP) ★★★★

This Review is from August 2026

Grubby Little Mitts have long been one of my favourite sketch duos, and this show is a brilliant example of why. Intensely funny, weird, clever and just a little bit unhinged, they throw themselves into a completely bonkers 70s game show with so much commitment that you can’t help but get invested. The premise is exactly what it says on the tin: catchphrases, cue cards, ridiculous characters and a suspicious amount of audience participation.

The crowd were so invested, which made the whole thing even more fun. There’s something particularly satisfying about a comedy show where everyone in the room is fully on board with the nonsense, and this definitely achieved that. I found myself getting far more competitive about what was happening than I probably should have.

Rosie Nicholls and Sullivan Beau Brown both bring incredible characterisation, completely committing to every bizarre little detail. They have that rare ability to make even the strangest choices feel completely natural, which is exactly what makes the silliness work.

It’s also impressively well researched. There’s clearly a lot of thought behind the world they’ve created, and that attention to detail makes the gags shine even more. You can tell there’s a lot going on beneath the surface, even when the surface is two people being gloriously weird on stage.

One small note from the performance I saw: our contestant seemed to find the level of involvement a little overwhelming at times. It might be worth tweaking the contestant interaction slightly so those moments feel a little more comfortable for everyone.

There are definitely a few WIP edges to smooth out, but honestly, that’s the only thing keeping this from being five stars. If this is what Grubby Little Mitts are doing while still figuring it out, I’m very excited to see the finished version.

So yes, four stars – but only because I’m reviewing a Work in Progress show. This is very, very nearly a five.
