Paula Valluerca - On The Mic

Bob’s BlundaBus hosts the show Madame Señorita: 25 Different Shows, Come Every Day! in which Paula Valluerca attempts to create a show from scratch for 25 nights. We fired a Q&A over to the crazy clown.

Hi Paula, what’s this all about?

This is an attempt to create a show from scratch using the audience as a guide, so I can see what works / what doesn´t. The inspiration to do this is the need I feel to re-connect with the joy of being/ feeling like an idiot, and the urge to create something totally new. The new show is not necessarily going to be about being an idiot, but I am sure the fact of doing something so unrehearsed will make me look/ feel like an idiot more than once!

An idiot knows nothing and he/she is happy. I will try to do the same.

Everyday, I will perform a different improvised show. Most of them will be inspired by The Big Questions of Life:

What is Freedom? Who are we? Are we alone, ultimately? What are we doing here? Are we, really, here?

What is reality? Am I a totally deluded idiot? If I am, what does it mean???

This is an experience for those people that like their comedy idiotic, surreal, honest, and pretty absurd (but meaningful).

You can expect clowning, singing, guitar playing, absurd poetry, comedy, mysterious characters, awkward moments and a fair amount of chaos.

What does Edinburgh mean to you?

Edinburgh for me means fun, joy and freedom!

Who inspires you and why?

Bob Slayer inspires me. For a number of reasons, but over all because he has also made it possible to develop a model were performers at the fringe do not have to be on a massive debt in order to be active with their careers, and they feel they have a group of people behind that support their work.

Describe your best or worst experiences on stage.

One day, in the middle of a show, I had the feeling that my knickers were covered in blood. I checked. No blood. However, now there is a moment in my previous show trailer that shows me worryingly looking at my pants.

Describe your best or worst review.

I was quite flattered when Steve Bennet said that my tongue was `the funniest tongue in the circuit´. Cheers, tongue. I can always count on you if I am not being funny myself!

If you weren’t a performer, what would you be?

I am already so many other things. I am here if you have a job offer for January and February, by the way.

What was the last book you read?

Grayson Perry´s The Descent of Man.

Ask and then answer a question of your own choosing.

Paula 1- Should we break up, for good?

Paula 2- Yes, let´s do it. This does not work any more…

Paula 1, 2: Ok. Oh, wait…dammit!

Imagine that the BBC have asked you to produce a primetime show. What would it be and who else would be involved?

I don´t produce, honey! I would be the protagonist and I would hire a producer and a hair dresser.
